Dudley Randall was a Wayne State University alumnus, University of Detroit librarian, poet, and publisher. He founded the Broadside Press in 1965, initially to publish his own work. It went on to include almost every name in African American poetry of the 1960s and 70s.

Broadside Press merged with the Naomi Long Madgett's Lotus Press, becoming Broadside/Lotus in 2015. It is one of America's oldest Black-run presses.
