Description
The 1950s marked a turning point in Detroit. It reached its peak population of 1.8 million, and began a demographic shift from a majority white to a majority Black city. During this time, the Detroit Public Library hosted a centenary exhibition of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Authored by Chester E. Jorgenson, Associate Professor of English at Wayne University, the exhibition catalog looks back on the myth and legend of Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel.
