Imari Obadele (born Richard Bullock Henry) was an educator and Black nationalist who helped found the revolutionary Malcolm X Society (MXS) in Detroit. After the 1967 uprising, the MXS released their plan "New Community: A Proposal for Reconstruction Area #1 in Detroit" for Black-run cooperatives.
In 1968, Imari and brother Gaidi Obadele founded the Black separatist movement Republic of New Afrika.
